West Suffolk swimmers lift national trophy
Hannah Wright of West Suffolk SC helped the Eastern Region team cruise to victory at the DSE National Junior Disability Championships at Ponds Forge International Pool in Sheffield at the weekend. Setting new personal best times in almost every swim, Hannah won 5 gold medals, 2 silvers and a bronze in her 8 individual events. As well as winning gold medals in the 50m and 100m fly, 50 and 100m breastroke and the 200m individual medley, Hannah also contributed to gold medal performances by the Eastern Region team in the 4 x 100m medley relay and the 4 x 100m freestyle relay.
Eastern Region team captain Jack Copping, who trains with West Suffolk SC, also earned valuable points for the team and achieved a number of new personal best times in his races. Eastern Region swimmers Emma and James Hollis won the top boy and top girl trophies in the championships.
Thirteen regional teams from throughout Great Britain and Ireland competed for the overall trophy. With Eastern Region finishing the weekend with 47859 points, ahead of Scotland with 31255 points, and East Midlands in third place, Eastern Region came away with the winners trophy.
